2023 Jun Progress: Backgrounds

One of the biggest issues with the demo was the backgrounds. It came up in feedback fairly regularly, and I knew they were a weaker element of the demo. Drawing backgrounds isn't my strong suit, but I'm doing what I can to improve them and make them "fit" with the rest of the VN's visuals. This is also tied into the CGs—UI elements covered important parts of the CGs, but with this framing, that won't be an issue anymore.

So with the first draft done, but needing a break from writing, I've started to work on remaking the backgrounds. Thankfully, I can still use the old ones as direct references. I think the ones I've gotten done look a lot better than before Compare how the cabin's main room looks here in-engine:

So I'll be working on backgrounds for a while. I'm not sure how long it will take, but I imagine I won't finish until late July. Since sprites really clog up the script, I'll probably go back to editing the dialogue after backgrounds.
